Past ToursJuly 25, 2010:The 2010 National Scout Jamboree will be held at Fort A.P. Hill, located in Northern Virginia. A contingent of Boy Scouts will visit the Museum. A special show of Jewish War Veterans and Boy Scouts at work and play will be displayed in the Museum Lobby for the month of July. June 23, 2010:Debbie Levy, author of A Year of Goodbyes pays a visit to the museum. Accompanying her is Jutta Salzberg, her mother and the heroine of the book. Museum President, PNC David Magidson will provide the opening remarks and a brief history of the Jewish War Veterans and the Museum. Exhibits tour will follow. January 26, 2009:U.S. Department of State hosts an International Visitor Leadership Program for teacher-trainers from Poland. U.S. Embassy in Warsaw has nominated these visitors to participate in a program to focus on "Education and the Holocaust”. Program lead by Holocaust Camp survivor and liberator Bernhard Storch. HAZAK is an organization of senior members (age 55 plus) of synagogues associated with the United Synagogues of Conservative Judaism (USCJ). 11am November 9, 2008: OPEN to the Public![]() In Remembrance of Kristallnacht: the museum will host Dr. Louis Maier (author of From the Golden Gate to the Black Forest), who will provide a lecture on his experiences during WWII. Dr. Maier arrived in San Francisco on the Kamakura Maru in Sept. 1940 and was inducted into the army in June 1943. He saw combat when his division crossed the Moselle and Rhine rivers. As an infantry rifleman he was transferred to the CIC detachment of the 89th infantry division to serve as German interpreter. After the war he worked with the JDC and as Chaplain's assistant in Linz, Austria. He assisted Jewish survivors in the displaced person camps in Upper Austria.Throughout his army service and beyond, he searched for the fate of his parents who had been deported from Germany to France and in August 1942 "to the East". These memoirs of this experiences are described in his most recent book which will be available for sale during the lecture. See http://drmaier.home.comcast.net for more information on Dr. Maier.
