August 6, 2019, 7:00 – Erasing the Hate – TM Garret

Eventbrite - Erasing the Hate - TM Garret

Beginning at age 13, TM Garret became attracted to White Nationalist groups. He joined the White Supremacist movement and founded a series of skinhead bands with names like Celtic Moon, Wolfsrudel (Wolfspack) and Höllenhunde (Hounds of Hell). Later he became a member of a German Ku Klux Klan faction and formed his own KKK group.

Today, Garret is an anti-racist activist and lives in Horn Lake, Mississippi. He is the founder and organizer of the annual Memphis Peace Conference. He works with the Simon Wiesenthal Center traveling to campuses to speak to students about the effects of hate and racism and the opportunities for engagement and community building. His current efforts include “Erase the Hate,” a tattoo cover up campaign working with tattoo parlors across the country to cover up racist, hate and gang tattoos for free. This campaign was recently featured on Vice News.

TM will join us to discuss his journey from hate to compassion and how to combat extremism in today’s environment.

Co-sponsored by the Jewish Study Center.
