The Medal of Honor is considered America’s highest award for military valor, to be presented to those who have performed an act of such conspicuous gallantry as to rise “above and beyond the call of duty.” Did it matter that these Medal of Honor recipients were Jewish?

Lesson: Would you put an “H?” on your dog tags

Grade Range: 4 – 12 (intended to be adapted for different age groups)

In World War II, Jewish soldiers were identified with an “H” on dog tags. Knowing Nazi Germany’s policies towards Jews, would you want that “H” on your dog tags if you were serving in Europe?
